Format Changes for the 2016 Bianchi Cup

The Bianchi Cup, presented by MidwayUSA will have a format change for 2016. The NRA has worked tirelessly to keep the Cup fresh, and felt that 2016 was a great time to implement the new Colt Championship Final.

All competitors will shoot once through the four Bianchi Cup courses of fire: The Practical, Barricade, Moving Target and Falling Plate Events. After every competitor has fired, all awards will be set. However, 36 competitors will move on to the Colt Championship Final where they will shoot an additional time through the four courses listed above. For these 36 individuals, their scores from the two matches will be added together to determine the various winners of the Bianchi Cups. These 36 will be the top 16 overall scores, plus the top four Women, Juniors, Metallic, Production, and top four Seniors/Grand Seniors. The last two competitors will shoot side-by-side and will be the top two competitors in the championship. There will be additional awards for all 36 Colt Championship Final competitors.

Key changes to the previous Bianchi Cup format

  • There will be no multi-gun aggregate match or speed event in 2016.
  • Registration is on Monday, May 23.
  • Firing starts at noon on Tuesday, May 24.
  • The top 36 competitors from the first 1920 (Top 16 Open, four Metallic, four Production, four Woman, four Junior and four Senior/Grand Senior) will move on to the new Championship Round.
  • The top 36 competitors will fire an additional 1920 through the same four NRA Bianchi Cup events, in the Championship Round, which will be fired on Saturday, May 28 starting at 8:30 am.
  • The aggregate of both 1920s will dictate the 2016 NRA Bianchi Cup Champions.

All competitors will complete the normal 1920 aggregate, as in prior years. This change will not affect anything won in the first aggregate and the only competitors affected are the top individuals.

Unfortunately, to accommodate the new format, the two-gun aggregate and the Colt Speed Event had to be eliminated this year. Other options are being looked at for the continuation of the Speed Event in 2017.
