Guns of Competition at the NRA Sporting Museum

A trip to the NRA National Sporting Arms Museum, located inside the flagship store of Bass Pro Shops in Springfield, Missouri, offers an opportunity to see several unique gun collections— such as “Hollywood Guns, “Lawmen and Outlaws of the Old West” and “Guns of the Texas Rangers.” A priceless collection of prestigious firearms lies within the cases of this beautiful museum. Stoney Roberts, manager of the museum, brought to life the various firearms of the “Competition Shooters Collection.”

We Need More Women Coaches

The youth shooting sports demographic has changed in a positive way over the last several years, moving from a predominantly male sport to a greater balance of male and female shooters.

What’s in Your Range Bag, Hank Garvey?

Hank Garvey has been shooting for half his life, considering he started at the age of 8 — on a shotgun. Since 2011, he has been concentrating on International Double Trap, and it doesn’t look like he’s missed his target or focus much.

M1 Garand Service and Maintenance

Your M1 Garand used to throw empties forward and to the right as it should, but today it’s been ejecting to the right rear. What does it mean? Or you’ve reassembled your Garand and now the action is locked up—what happened? And do you really need a gas cylinder lock screw wrench and gas cylinder wrench to disassemble the Garand?

Kim Rhode wins Gold at Pan Am Games, defends the Shooting Sports

Kim Rhode won the Women’s Skeet gold medal at this year’s Pan American (Pan Am) Games in Toronto. Team USA’s sole women’s skeet competitor was able to beat Argentinian Melisa Gil 15-12, dropping only one target in the gold-medal match. In the semifinal match, she set a Pan Am Games record with a perfect 16/16 score. Her qualification score of 74/75 is also a Pan Am Games record, and tied the current world record. This is Rhode’s fourth medal overall and second gold at the Pan Am Games.

2015 NRA World Shooting Championship

On September 24-26, the NRA World Shooting Championship, presented by Magpul, will be held at the Peacemaker National Training Center in Glengary, West Virginia. The NRA will gather the world’s top shooters, as well as the next generation of competitors to test their prowess in virtually every type of major firearms shooting sports. Featuring stages in pistol, rifle, shotgun, and combined firearms, shooters will compete in 12 disciplines over three days.

Women of the AMU

Whereas many might think of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) in terms of the world’s toughest men, it also trains steely-eyed women champions.

All About Primers with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit

The effects of different primers on ammunition accuracy is a topic that interests many, but which relatively few can easily test with precision. Most competitive shooters are limited in their access to a 1000-yard range and a quality accuracy-testing facility. Thus, experimentation with primers is often done at shorter ranges, relying heavily on chronograph results to help select primer brands or lots by velocity uniformity and accuracy testing.

2015 Crosman All-American Field Target Championship

Air rifle field target is, quite simply, one of the toughest shooting challenges that any target shooter can face.
