The second installment of our series on the 1908 Olympic Games focuses on the U.S. Shooting Team and the competition itself.

The United States Cartridge Company led the way for ammunition makers to contribute funds for the 1908 U.S. Olympic Shooting Team. Part 1 in our series on the London 1908 Olympic Games.

The gold medal-winning U.S. team was decided by the Video Assistant Referee.

The U.S. team outdueled the British, 3838 to 3827, to win the 2017 Roberts Trophy Smallbore Prone Match in Bisley, England

The U.S. Team concluded the match having earned six medals (three individual, three team) and eight top nine finishes. Ginny Thrasher advanced following a fifth place showing in the qualification relay.

When U.S. rifle shooters arrived in England before the 1948 Games, new Olympic rules for shooting coats and the free rifle kneeling position forced the Americans to adapt. And with a large amount of pistol shooters, the U.S. team had problems getting in enough practice prior to match time.
