Although it was the first year for the NRA Precision Pistol National Championships at Indiana’s Camp Atterbury, competitors enjoyed new amenities, such as the new covered 100-point range.

SSG Amanda Elsenboss also took place second place overall at the NRA Long-Range Nationals. A former Army Marksmanship Unit service rifle team member, Elsenboss won the match with a score of 798-36X.

This is the third consecutive second-source contract for Olin Winchester.

In 1912, government neglect temporarily altered the course of the National Matches. Thankfully, the NRA was there to pick up the pieces and moving the NRA Championships back to Sea Girt, N.J.

In 1910, the National Matches rules specified for rifles to be used as issued by the Ordnance Department without alteration or modification of any kind. An effort was made to form the regulations so that teams could have sufficient latitude to develop their own particular style of marksmanship and at the same time not disfigure the gun.

At the Nov. 15 match held at Palmyra Sportsmen's Assoc., Akron's dynamic duo of Openshaw and Gross once again dazzled with their prowess in competitive rifle shooting.

Trailers filled with 5.56 NATO and .50-cal. ammunition are headed around the globe from the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant. On Oct. 1, Winchester Ammunition took over operation of the historic Lake City Plant.
