The search has begun for the best amateur shooter in the country with the opening of registration for American Marksman—a new concept television show and shooting competition.

American Marksman will document a three-level national tour of amateur target shooting. Competitors begin at the local level and attempt to advance to regionals, and ultimately, to the national championship event. At only $20 to try your hand at the local qualifying level, American Marksman might just be the competition you have been searching for.

“If you ever wanted to enter a shooting competition and thought it was too intimidating or too expensive—then this is your chance to show the world what you’ve got,” said producer Michael Bane.

Anyone can compete as long as they meet the eligibility requirements. Once registered, competitors must participate in a qualifying event at their local range. Local qualifying will begin in March of 2016 at nearly 200 ranges in 47 states, ending in May. The regional championships will take place beginning in late June and will go through the end of August. The very first national championship will take place in January of 2017.

Categories include: Junior (12 to 16 years of age), Women's Open, Military/Law Enforcement and Men's Open. Competitors can view real time leaderboards in each region and category by visiting the website during the local qualifying period. The top 250 shooters in each region and category will advance to the regional championship round. The nine regional championships will be revealed as locations are finalized.

At the local qualifying level, all competitors will compete with a .22 caliber rifle, handgun, or both. American Marksman regionals and the national championship will present new challenges featuring different firearms and/or calibers. Cameras will be present during all phases of the competition.

“The local qualifying level is designed not only to appeal to more seasoned shooters, but also to attract new people into the shooting sports by offering a low-cost and less intimidating way to get involved in competition,” continued Bane.

American Marksman will air on Outdoor Sportsman Group networks beginning in December 2016.

Registration is now open at AMMarksman.com.
