Champions Crowned At 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship

Brody Lenington topped the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship leaderboard to win the overall title, while Madelyn Coats picked up the women’s individual title.

There were about 3,000 student-athletes and teams representing 456 high schools located around the U.S. that participated at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship in Mason, Mich., Jul. 10-14.

Brody Lenington of Cedar Vale-Dexter High School (Kansas) won the crown in the final round at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship on Sunday, July 14. The competition was held at the Michigan Trapshooting Association in Mason, Michigan, from July 10 to July 14.

Lenington triumphed over a field of more than 1,800 registered high school students seeking this year’s USA High School Clay Target League national championship title. After firing a 97 in the qualifying round the previous day, he was in 197th place prior to the final. But through perseverance and determination, Lenington shot a perfect 100-straight, subsequently surviving a shoot-off with 14 other student-athletes that also shot perfect scores in the day’s competition. When it was all said and done, after shattering 55 more targets without a miss, Lenington claimed his spot at the top of the individual championship podium.

On the women’s side, Madelyn Coats of Franklin-Waverly High School (Illinois) topped the leaderboard. Coats displayed consistency during the competition, shooting a 99 in Saturday’s Qualifying Round to enter the final in 36th place. After firing a score of 99 on Sunday, she was ranked 16th in the nation.

Oregon’s Yamhill-Carlton High School secured the team title at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship, rising ahead of 259 other high school clay target teams with a final score of 487 of 500.

Athletes and teams representing 456 high schools from across the nation participated at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship in July. The event featured approximately 3,000 athletes participating in team and individual qualifying events, culminating in a final championship round that awarded the top 10 men and women athletes, along with the top five high school clay target teams in the country.

A remarkable 37,158 student-athletes representing 1,795 high school teams across the country participated in USA Clay Target League programs this spring. Only the top student-athletes and teams qualified to compete at the 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship, based on season averages at the completion of the spring season.

The 2024 USA High School Clay Target League National Championship was proudly presented by Scheels, along with the U.S. Army, Friends of NRA, Lansing Sports Commission, Ducks Unlimited, Bass Pro Shops/Cabela’s Outdoor Fund, Walker’s, Do-All Outdoors, Mark Zauhar, Sportsman’s Guide, guns.com, Spandau Arms, Strike Visuals and Winchester.
