Smith & Wesson is expanding its Model 1854 lever-action series with a new chambering: 360 Buckhammer. Announced this week, the rifle pairs the company’s stainless-steel Model 1854 platform with a straight-walled cartridge introduced in 2023 and tailored for deer hunting in lever-action rifles.
The Model 1854 in 360 Buckhammer closely mirrors its siblings chambered in .45-70 Gov't and .30-30 Winchester. It feeds from a fixed magazine tube with a 6+1 capacity and uses a forged 416 stainless steel receiver with a side loading gate. The 20-inch barrel is also stainless steel and comes with 5/8-24 threading, a nod to shooters who plan to run modern muzzle devices where legal.
Smith & Wesson has leaned into practical updates rather than nostalgia alone. The rifle ships with a Picatinny-style optics rail, an adjustable ghost ring rear sight from XS Sights and a gold bead front sight. A large loop lever is intended to keep the action moving smoothly, while a flat-faced trigger is meant to provide consistent finger placement shot to shot.
Up front, the stainless fore-end includes three M-LOK-compatible slots and built-in sling attachment points, allowing users to configure the rifle without aftermarket modifications. The overall result is a lever-action that keeps its traditional silhouette while accommodating contemporary accessories and shooting preferences.
The Smith & Wesson Model 1854 chambered in 360 Buckhammer carries an MSRP of $1,399 and is the latest addition to the company’s growing lever-action lineup.
