Paris 2024 Paralympics: Results For U.S. Shooting Athletes After Day Two

At the Paris 2024 Paralympics, USA Shooting Paralympic athletes have not advanced to a final after two days of competition in France, with the best showing thus far from YanXiao Gong with a 16th-place finish in the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event on Friday, August 30.

Shooting events at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games kicked off at the Chateauroux Shooting Center in Chateauroux-Deols, France, on Thursday, August 29, with pre-event training for the R2 women’s 10m air rifle standing SH1, R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 and P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 events.

As mentioned, YanXiao Gong walked away from P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event qualification in 16th place with a score of 557-12X, with U.S. teammate Marco De La Rosa finishing in 22nd place with 550-9X.

There were 26 shooters competing in P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1.

The duo of Gong and De La Rosa will next compete in the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 event on Monday, September 2. In addition, Gong will be in the P4 mixed 50m pistol SH1 event on Wednesday, September 4.

In the R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 event, U.S. Paralympic athlete McKenna Geer claimed 23rd place after qualification with a score of 626.1. Her U.S. teammate Jazmin Almlie-Ryan finished 26th in the same event with 620.9.

Twenty-nine shooters competed in the R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 event at the Chateauroux Shooting Center in France.

Next up for Geer and Almlie-Ryan at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games is the R5 mixed 10m air rifle prone SH2 event on Sunday, September 1. Additionally, Geer will compete in the R9 mixed 50m air rifle prone SH2 event on Wednesday, September 4.

In both the P3 mixed 25m pistol SH1 and R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 events, only the top eight shooters from qualification advance to the final.

After the P1 men’s 10m air pistol SH1 event final, the gold medalist was Jeongdu Jo of South Korea with a score of 237.4.

Claiming the gold medal in the R4 mixed 10m air rifle standing SH2 event was Francek Tirsek of Slovenia with 253.3. He set a new Paralympic record in the final, eclipsing the 252.8 score set by Philip Jonsson at the Tokyo Paralympics in 2021.
