Back in December, Walther Arms announced a pair of new full-size PDP Match 9 mm pistols in two flavors, one with a steel frame and the other made of polymer. Let’s take a closer look.

PDP MATCH STEEL FRAME

As the name implies, the Walther Arms PDP Match Steel Frame (Item No. 2872200, MSRP: $1,899) is a full-size, semi-automatic striker-fired 9 mm pistol with a precision-machined steel frame. The barrel is five inches long with a 1:9-inch twist. A hefty pistol, the PDP Match Steel Frame weighs 41 ounces, sans magazine. The additional weight from the steel frame should prove to be beneficial for competitive shooters.

At the heart of the aptly named Walther PDP Match Steel Frame full-size pistol is a precision-machined steel frame, which should make for a stable shooting platform.

About the new PDP Match Steel Frame, Walther said, “The precision-machined steel frame guarantees the PDP Match’s ability to endure the harshest conditions, while shattering performance boundaries and securing superior results.”

The Walther PDP Match Steel Frame also includes a dynamic performance trigger, no-slip performance duty texture and wrap-around grips. For the latter, the user can change the grip feel and profile with factory and aftermarket grip panel options. Trigger pull is approximately five pounds. Additionally, the ambidextrous magazine release button is conveniently positioned for thumb operation, and is reversible for right- or left-handed operation.

The Walther Arms PDP Match Steel Frame’s wrap-around grips have a performance duty grip texture, and can be customized with factory and aftermarket grip panel options.

The Walther PDP Match Steel Frame’s ported slide incorporates SuperTerrain serrations, which are “uniquely designed protruding serrations on the slide, allowing for quicker and more responsive hands-on engagement with the pistol.” In addition, the enhanced magazine well, made of aluminum, should help streamline the reloading process.

Similar to other Walther PDP models, the PDP Match Steel Frame is optics-ready and includes a free cover plate, along with the option to contact the company for different optic-mounting plate options.

Overall length of the Walther PDP Match Steel Frame is 8.37 inches, with height at 5¾ inches.

Two 20-round magazines and one 18-round magazine are included with purchase of the Walther PDP Match Steel Frame pistol.

PDP MATCH POLYMER

Optics-ready and with 18-round capacity, the new polymer-framed Walther Arms PDP Match 9 mm pistol (Item No. 2872595, MSRP: $1,099) also features a performance duty texture for a secure, comfortable grip. In addition to the full-size polymer frame, the new PDP Match Polymer includes a five-inch barrel (1:9-inch twist), dynamic performance trigger and a ported, tenifer-coated slide, the latter for weight reduction and barrel cooling.

With a full-size polymer frame, the Walther PDP Match Polymer has a tenifer-coated slide sporting strategic slide cuts, and is slightly shorter than the PDP Match Steel Frame.

As mentioned, the PDP Match Polymer is an optics-ready pistol, allowing the user to seamlessly integrate a preferred optic with a factory optics mounting cut on the slide. At customer request, Walther will supply a free optics-mounting plate of your choice. Additionally, there are industry-standard iron sights on the Walther PDP Match Polymer.

Overall length of the Walther Arms PDP Match Polymer is 8½ inches with a 7.4-inch sight radius. The height is 5.7 inches and the weight with an empty magazine is 26.9 ounces.
