Savage Arms recently announced the new Model 110 RF with an initial lineup of three rifles that put the company’s full-size Model 110 action into a rimfire package. The rifles accept the same stocks and accessories as the Model 110 short-action centerfire, use the same headspace control system and mount the same AccuTrigger. What changes is the cartridge, the chamber and a reversible front baffle that lets the shooter switch bolt throw length in less than 30 seconds.
That bolt throw feature is the engineering detail that gives the 110 RF an edge. The reversible front baffle offers two configurations: a full .308 Winchester-length bolt throw that replicates the feel of cycling a centerfire rifle, and a shortened .22 LR-length throw for faster cycling during rimfire competition or practice. Swapping between them requires no tools and takes less than half a minute. The bolt itself uses a front-locking bolt head—the same architecture as the centerfire 110—which Savage says produces higher accuracy potential than the rear-locking designs found in most rimfire actions. The bolt handle is threaded 5/16x24, making it compatible with aftermarket bolt knobs.
All three models share a set of core specifications. The barrels are threaded 1/2x28, precision button-rifled and fitted with a custom .22 LR match chamber. A one-piece 20-MOA Picatinny rail comes standard for optics mounting. An L3i Elite 10-round AICS-style detachable magazine with an adjustable latch lets the user fine-tune how the magazine sits in the action—a small detail aimed at eliminating the tilt-induced feeding issues that plague some rimfire box magazines.
The lineup opens with the 110 RF Core Tactical at $1,099, which pairs the 110 RF action with a user-adjustable AccuTrigger (1.5 to 4 pounds) in what amounts to the entry point for the platform.
As for the 110 RF Magpul, priced at $1,199, it drops the action into a Magpul Hunter stock with the same AccuTrigger trigger-pull weight range.
Finally, the flagship 110 RF Elite Precision at $2,399 steps up to an MDT Gen 2 ACC Premier chassis and a Competition AccuTrigger adjustable from 1 to 4 pounds. The Elite Precision is aimed squarely at competitive rimfire shooters and people who want their trainer to handle identically to a precision centerfire rig.
“The new Model 110 RF series is one of the only offerings that does not just mimic a centerfire rifle, but truly adapts the traditional frame for rimfire shooting,” said Beth Shimanski, vice president of marketing at Savage Arms.
