Akron was pleased to host one of the NCAA’s newest rifle programs on November 22, as Mount Aloysius College traveled from east of Pittsburgh for the matchup. Whether intentional or not, the visitors brought out the best in the Zips—who, for the second straight week, posted the third-highest score in the NCAA this season. Akron’s 4692 edged the previous week’s performance at Navy by a single point.
Typically, the Zips are stronger in smallbore with room to grow in air rifle, but this match showed the opposite. Akron’s air rifle total (2365) led the way, though smallbore remained strong. Senior Natalia Siek continued her standout season with a 589 in smallbore, earning the top-gun honor. Close behind were senior Rachael Paddock (585) and freshman Kathleen Moran (584), who shattered her career high.
Siek wasn’t done—she dominated air rifle as well, firing a 595 to claim another top-gun finish. Moran added a career-best 593, with senior Joseph Hahn (591) and freshman Matthew Kimball (590) contributing to the winning effort. Moran capped her day with career highs in smallbore, air rifle and individual aggregate, helping the Zips record their second-best air rifle score of the season. It was a full-team performance and an outstanding day for Akron.
For Mount Aloysius College, Molly Miller led the squad with an 1153-62X aggregate (587 air rifle, 566 smallbore), placing 10th individually.
