The Camp Perry calendar underwent some big changes for 2017, some of which need some additional correction. Due to space limitations, here is the short version of how these changes occurred.

In January 2016, the CMP advised the NRA that they no longer wanted the NRA to conduct the CMP events at Camp Perry. They advised that they wished to conduct the events using their own personnel and volunteers. They also wanted each entity to pay their own expenses related to their own events, thus eliminating cost sharing. The NRA agreed to this provided that all NRA events were conducted first, due to the extensive setup time for Pistol. Financially, it didn’t make sense for the NRA to conduct Pistol, send everyone home for two weeks, then pay to bring everyone back again for High Power. A calendar of events was created, agreed to, and published before the 2016 National Matches.

While at Camp Perry, the CMP advised that the agreed-to schedule would not work. Several schools had adjusted their start dates and those dates now conflicted with the CMP Junior Team Match for Service Rifle. CMP requested an adjustment to the calendar to accommodate those junior competitors.

To keep the NRA events and the CMP events together, as previously agreed to, the only option was to move the calendar forward either one or two weeks. Both involved the July 4th holiday weekend. The two proposed schedules were presented to the Ohio National Guard, who selected the second option, moving the calendar forward by two weeks.

We are aware that this creates a huge problem, especially for the Long-Range competitors who will find scant housing in the Port Clinton area during this time. We are looking at adjustments to mitigate this and will publish a modified calendar in the next couple of months. Please be patient as we work through this.

A five-year contract was signed with the St. Joseph Valley Rifle and Pistol Club in Bristol, IN, to host the Smallbore Championships. The contract expires in 2020 and we look forward to conducting the Nationals on this excellent range.

The NRA will be hosting a World Shooting Championship at Peacemaker National Training Center in West Virginia on September 15-17, 2016. Kimber and Nightforce Optics are sponsoring the event which consists of 12 fired stages that include Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, and combined firearms. Additionally, there are side events available for awards. Categories include Pro and Amateur competitors. Firearms and ammunition are furnished, and the firearms eventually end up on the prize table. The top prize is $25,000, with a prize table value of over $200,000 that is weighted by the percentage of Pro and Amateur competitors. For more information go to https://wsc.nra.org/match-info.
