PROSPERITY, S.C. — Ownership of a design rarely surfaces in gun news until something goes wrong. Jacob Grey Firearms announced Sept. 3 that it has signed an intellectual property licensing agreement with HEXMAG covering its Hex and Hex Pro handguns, a quiet piece of business that arrives with an unusually direct message for anyone already shooting one: nothing about your pistol changes.
Under the terms, Jacob Grey continues to manufacture, sell and develop the platform while recognizing HEXMAG’s intellectual property. Design, performance, quality and availability of both models are unaffected, according to the company, as are existing orders and dealer inventory.
Hexagons are hard to miss on these guns. Jacob Grey wraps the pattern across the aluminum grip module and stamps the name on the slide, and that visual signature has done a lot of work in a category where most double-stack 1911s look alike at 10 yards.
Hex Pro followed in early 2026 and is the version most shooters are asking about now. Jacob Grey moved to a CNC-machined billet 4140 steel frame with a black DLC finish, which the company says improves slide-to-frame fit and wear resistance over the aluminum-framed original. A 4.6-inch stainless barrel and matching slide carry what Jacob Grey calls chunk porting, cut to hold the muzzle flatter through recovery. Grip geometry borrowed from the Nox 9 replaced the earlier contour. Internals—ambidextrous safety, ejector, disconnector, magazine release, hammer and sear—come from the company’s Armored Billet system, machined from tool steel, hardened and DLC coated.

Jacob Grey has expanded quickly since the Hex debuted, adding the Nox 9, the Nox 9 Limited and the StageMaster, a factory-built Limited Optics package intended for USPSA and Steel Challenge shooters who would rather buy a competition gun than build one. In addition, Neice said a fourth platform is in development but declined to describe it, adding that his team is “nowhere near finished.”
