Westin Anderson made the trip to Tucson worth it before the week was half over.
The Federal Ammunition sponsored trapshooter earned the Junior title in the High Over All Championship at the 50th Annual Spring Grand American, held February 23 through March 1 at the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club in Tucson, Arizona. Anderson broke 1071 of 1100 targets to finish as the top junior in the HOA.
Anderson also won the Singles Championship Over All title with a perfect 200 out of 200, then extended that run with an additional 275 straight targets in the shoot-off. He added the Doubles Championship Junior title with 99 out of 100 to cap a week in which he was arguably the most productive shooter on the grounds, regardless of division.
Teammate Ziggy Tkaczenko was every bit as busy. Tkaczenko claimed the Wheelchair Champion title in four separate championship events—High Over All (983/1100), High All Around (370/400), the Singles Championship (195/200) and the Doubles Championship (91/100). It was a clean sweep of the wheelchair division across every major event on the program.
Eric Munson rounded out the Team Federal results with a perfect 100 out of 100 in Preliminary Doubles.
The Spring Grand American, now in its 50th year, has been a fixture on the ATA calendar since its debut in 1976 at Litchfield Park in Phoenix. The event has called the Tucson Trap and Skeet Club home for decades, and this year’s edition saw a significant jump in participation with nearly 1,500 competitors.
