Sometimes in clay-target competition, pattern density can matter more than raw speed. Winchester is leaning into that reality by expanding its AA Super Spreader lineup, introducing a new target load that excels in short-range performance rather than all-purpose balance.
Announced earlier this month at SHOT Show 2026 in Las Vegas, the new AA Super Spreader load arrives in 12-gauge with a clear design goal: open patterns earlier and more uniformly. Winchester says the load produces patterns up to 70% larger at 20 yards compared to standard target loads, a meaningful difference when reaction time is limited and precision windows are tight.
The change comes from inside the shell. A hinged wad paired with a specialized shot column is designed to separate rapidly as pellets leave the barrel, spreading them quickly while maintaining even distribution. An X-shaped post inside the shotcup helps force that separation, trading tight clusters for broader coverage without turning the pattern erratic.
Both versions of the AA Super Spreader run at 1,250 fps and use #8 lead shot. Shooters can choose between a 1-ounce payload or a slightly heavier 1⅛-ounce option, each housed in a 2¾-inch shell. Winchester notes that the same clean-burning primer and powder used across the AA line are here as well.
In practice, the appeal isn’t about hitting harder or shooting farther. It’s about margin. Wider patterns at close distances mean small timing errors are less punishing, especially on fast, crossing targets that don’t wait for perfect alignment.
Winchester’s AA Super Spreader shotshells are available now through retailers nationwide. Both load options carry an MSRP of $16.23 per 25-round box. Go to winchester.com to learn more.
