WVU Rifle Team Ranked Number 1 in Latest CRCA Poll

The No. 1 ranked West Virginia University rifle team retained the top spot in the Jan. 19 Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) Poll.

On Jan. 12, West Virginia set an NCAA record with an aggregate score of 4724 to beat No. 5 Alaska-Fairbanks by a score of 4724-4697. The Mountaineers then shot 16 points higher in their victory over No. 15 Akron on Jan. 17, breaking their own NCAA record for the second time in five days. Freshman Ginny Thrasher led WVU to its ninth straight victory.

The No. 2 ranked Murray State rifle team returned to action with a tri-match against Nebraska and Ole Miss in Oxford, MS. The Racers shot a 4687, besting the 4672 shot by Nebraska and the 4593 shot by the host Rebels.

The No. 3 ranked Kentucky rifle team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of North Carolina State by a score of 4665-4653 on Jan. 17.

The No. 4 ranked TCU rifle team beat Ohio State with a score of 4703 on Jan. 17. With the win, TCU improves to 9-0 this season.
