Anybody who went looking for 9 mm Luger in 2020 remembers the pegboard. Everybody said the same thing on the way out the door—next time I’ll be ready—and then next time showed up and nobody was.
Ammunition Depot, out of Boca Raton, Florida, announced a service last week aimed squarely at that gap. AmmoVault has less in common with a subscription box than with the Christmas club account your grandmother kept at the savings and loan. Open it free, tell it what you shoot, set a dollar figure and a schedule, and it starts buying on your behalf. Five bucks clears the bar, and what it gets you is ammunition—actual rounds, pulled off the shelf, tagged to your name and parked in the company’s warehouse until you send for them. Not points, nor store credit.
Which is the part worth sitting with a minute.
A few thousand rounds in a humidity-controlled warehouse take up zero square feet of your closet, and they don’t need to be hunted down at 2:00 a.m. on a site that just flipped to backorder. Ammunition Depot calls the arrangement a 100% In-Stock Storage Guarantee. Translated out of press-release: the number on your dashboard corresponds to physical cases on a physical rack, insured against theft and damage, waiting on a shipping request.
Run it on autopilot or drop money in when the mood strikes. AmmoVault subscriptions can be raised, lowered, paused or shut off entirely. Active accounts pay no membership fee and no storage charge, so the budget goes toward ammunition rather than the right to own ammunition. The interesting part was never the website—anybody can build a website. Ammunition Depot has been at this since 2011, has moved north of 2 billion rounds and already operates the warehouse and state-compliance machinery this sort of thing quietly depends on—reserving inventory customer by customer, keeping those counts honest across a span of years, then getting boxes across state lines that each have their own opinion about ammunition. That is a much harder problem than a checkout page, and it’s the one that can drown imitators.
As a company, Ammunition Depot isn’t new to NRA members and Shooting Sports USA readers. We covered its partnership with the National Rifle Association of America earlier this summer, a fundraising and awareness push behind Second Amendment litigation that includes the long-running federal challenge to California’s draconian ammunition background check law.

For competitive shooters the math is barely worth doing on paper. Someone running a full USPSA or Steel Challenge season, or a high power schedule, already treats ammunition as a fixed monthly cost, right alongside gas. For many, spreading it across the calendar in small bites, at whatever the market happens to be charging that week, will beat writing one eye-watering check in March.
