Akron and Morehead State decided to meet this year at a neutral location for their annual competition on Saturday, October 25. The location selected was The X-Count range in Fort Wayne, Indiana. I do not know if it was the location, or simply the team deciding to put it all together, but whatever it was—it worked! Akron led the field in both smallbore and air rifle to finish ahead of the Eagles 4709 to 4677. This is the high-match score of the season for the young Zips’ squad.
In the smallbore division, Akron dominated the leaderboard by capturing the top four positions with senior Rachael Paddock firing a career-high 591, earning her the top gun award for the match. While a pair of freshmen, Matthew Kimball (586) and Kiersten Allen (584) rounded out the top three slots for Akron. I am thrilled to see Rachael place where she belongs. I am equally thrilled to see our freshmen stepping up to the line. This makes the future look bright.
Kimball was on fire with his air rifle as he smashed his career-best score with an amazing 597 out of the possible 600 points. This performance landed Kimball at the top of the leaderboard giving him the coveted top gun award for air rifle. The dynamic duo of seniors Paddock and Natalia Siek rounded out the top three performers for the Akron squad in air rifle with like scores of 592.
The top shooter for Morehead State was Adrianna Beard with an individual aggregate of 1175-77X, ranking her third on the individual aggregate leaderboard.
