Smith & Wesson continues to widen the scope of its Spec Series with two new releases making their debut at SHOT Show 2026 in Las Vegas this week: the Spec Series R Model 686 Plus revolver and the Spec Series VI M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact handgun.

Smith & Wesson revolver
The Smith & Wesson Spec Series R Model 686 Plus blends classic revolver lines with updated features, including optics readiness and a ported stainless-steel barrel.

The Spec Series R Model 686 Plus marks the first revolver to join the line. Built on the familiar L-Frame, it carries seven rounds of .357 Magnum or .38 Special +P and tips the scale at 42.4 ounces. The 4.13-inch stainless-steel barrel is fitted with a Power Port to help manage recoil, while an extended Performance Center cylinder release improves handling under use.

Optics readiness comes standard, with an Aimpoint ACRO P-2 mounted on a custom base, complemented by a red ramp front sight and an adjustable rear. The Tungsten-colored Cerakote frame contrasts with a black PVD fluted cylinder and traditional checkered wood grips, blending old and new without leaning too far in either direction. Included accessories range from moon clips to a pistol bag, knife and commemorative items. MSRP is $1,999.

Spec Series VI M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact
Smith & Wesson’s new Spec Series VI M&P9 Metal Compact features an aluminum frame, inline barrel porting and a factory-mounted Aimpoint ACRO red dot.

Smith & Wesson’s Spec Series VI M&P9 M2.0 Metal Compact takes a more contemporary route. Chambered in 9 mm Luger, the pistol uses a 7075 T-6 aluminum frame and carries 15+1 rounds. Its 4-inch barrel features inline porting at the 12 o’clock position to reduce muzzle rise and speed follow-up shots.

A Floyds Custom Shop EDC magazine well and matching magazine baseplates encourage a higher grip and smoother reloads, while the Aimpoint ACRO P-2 mounts directly to the slide from the factory. The package is rounded out with a Hunter Constantine carry belt, pistol bag and the customary Spec Series accessories. MSRP is $1,899.
