The John Anthony Halter Shooting Sports Education Center at Michigan’s Hillsdale College hosted the 2025 World Shooting Para Sport Para Trap Grand Prix from June 23-26, bringing together elite international athletes from the U.S. and Canada in a competition that champions perseverance.

Hillsdale College student Sophia Bultema, a member of the Hillsdale Shotgun Team and the current Junior World record holder in para trap, took silver in the PT3 Mixed Trap Standing Upper Limb category. Bultema, class of 2026, hit 100 out of 125 targets during the qualification rounds before securing her second-place finish in the final.

In the final, Bultema earned a score of 29, which was seven points behind gold medalist Albert Fiori.

“Despite having physical disabilities, para trap athletes compete in the same bunker trap as their Olympic counterparts—and often rival their scores,” Halter Center Range Manager Matt Little said. “It is an honor to host these athletes and provide a platform for this level of competition.”

The event was part of a growing international effort to elevate para trap as a Paralympic sport, with hopes of its inclusion in the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games. Inclusion would open the door to greater funding and broader participation in the sport.
