Facing some of North America’s best silhouette shooters, Justin Marsh emerged triumphant at the 2025 Canadian NRA National Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championship—securing not just the title, but also the opening stage win of the prestigious Lapua Monarch Cup. The showdown delivered as much suspense as a Sunday at Augusta with barely a point to spare.

Held June 30 to July 1 at the breathtaking Bull River Shooters Association range in Cranbrook, British Columbia, the Canadian National Championship launched this year’s Lapua Monarch Cup—a two-leg, international test that separates the good from the legendary in silhouette competition.

Marsh wasn’t the early pick to win it all at the 2025 Canadian NRA National Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championship. But after rallying in Matches 2 and 3 of the Standard Rifle division, he posted a final score of 105—just enough to edge out Jake Stine (104) and Cathy Winstead-Severin, a 103-point powerhouse in her own right.

Stine, representing Team SK, delivered a clinic in consistency, posting 34, 36 and 34 across the three matches to clinch second place and further cement his status as one of the sport’s most formidable competitors.

Right behind them? A wave of familiar names. Erich Mietenkorte and Jordan Marsh finished with 102 apiece, while Jason Marsh and Kalvin Marsh both notched strong 100-point performances.

The Lapua Monarch Cup now heads south for its second and final stage: the 2025 NRA National Smallbore Rifle Silhouette Championship, set for July 20-22 at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. With a title on the line, the world of silhouette rifle shooting will gather for a competition under the high desert sun.

If Cranbrook was any indication, we’re in for another wild ride. In this game, glory—or heartbreak—is often just one steel chicken, pig, turkey or ram away.
