GRANADA, Spain — USA Shooting athletes Nick Mowrer and Nathalia Tobar finished fourth in the 10m air pistol mixed team event after the final on Tuesday, April 7, at the 2026 ISSF World Cup for Rifle/Pistol.
Readers may remember last year when Mowrer was a member of the U.S. team that competed in the Roberts Match smallbore rifle match at the historic Bisley Range in Surrey, England.
Four teams advanced to the 10m air pistol mixed team final: China, India, Hungary and the United States.
Mowrer and Tobar entered the final in fourth place after posting a 578-16X in qualification, two points behind Hungary’s Veronika Major and Akos Nagy. China’s Yao Qianxun and Hu Kai led the field with 586-23X, followed by India’s Palak Gulia and Mukesh Nelavalli at 581-23X.
From the opening series of the final, the separation was immediate. While India and China traded strings in the low 50s, the American pair settled into the high-40 range—steady, composed, but giving ground. At this level, the margins don’t whisper; they widen fast.
By the end of the first stage, the U.S. trailed Hungary by several points and was eliminated in fourth with a total of 349.1. Mowrer finished at 174.8, while Tobar posted a score of 174.3.
India claimed gold with a world record 487.7, surpassing the previous mark of 481.3 set earlier this year by Nigina Saidkulova and Mukhammad Kamalov of Uzbekistan at the Asian Shooting Championships in New Delhi. China followed closely for silver at 484.8, while Hungary finished with bronze at 414.9.
For Team USA, the result underscores a familiar truth in international air pistol: the difference isn’t volatility—it’s precision at the margins. Against teams stacking 10.4s and 10.7s, “almost” 10s don’t hold position for long.
Competition at the ISSF World Cup Granada continues through April 12.
