Mauser has announced its new M98 Das Original bolt-action rifle, blending contemporary materials with the design principles that defined the original Model 98 more than a century ago. Notably, the inclusion of .300 Win. Mag.-chambered model marks the first time this caliber has been chambered in a Mauser M98.
Built in Germany for American hunters and collectors, the updated rifle retains the controlled round feed system, strength and safety features that made the platform a benchmark for bolt-action performance.
The original M98 earned a reputation for reliability and durability in demanding conditions. According to Mauser, the latest Das Original maintains those core characteristics while incorporating select refinements. Among them is a Diamond Like Carbon coating applied to bolt components to reduce wear and add surface protection. The rifle also features a gold-colored trigger and gold-colored lettering on the floor plate, a detail that traces its lineage back to the 1898 Das Original.
Furniture on the new model consists of hand-selected Grade 5 wood, chosen for both structural integrity and visual character. Magnum configurations are fitted with a red safari recoil pad system intended to improve comfort when firing heavier cartridges.
For the standard configuration, Mauser is offering the rifle chambered in .308 Win., .30-06 and the aforementioned .300 Win. Mag. The standard models carry a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $12,000.
Magnum variants are chambered in .375 H&H and .416 Rigby and incorporate the red safari recoil pad system as standard equipment. These magnum models are priced at $14,500.
“The M98 Das Original edition was built in Germany for American hunters and collectors who appreciate perfection and top-tier engineering,” said Jason Evans, CEO of Blaser Group (parent company of Mauser). He added that the new Das Original delivers the reliability associated with the original M98 while introducing enhanced features.
With the latest M98 Das Original, Mauser revisits a historic platform and updates it with an expanded caliber lineup while preserving the mechanical foundation that established its solid reputation.
