J.P. Sauer and Sohn has introduced its new Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle.

The company, which is Germany’s oldest manufacturer of hunting firearms, describes the new rifle as “an engineering masterpiece, delivering timeless elegance, absolute accuracy and exceptional versatility.”

Sauer 505
Sauer is offering three configuration packages for Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle, in addition to individual configuration. Pictured here is the Elegance package with ErgoLux stock, which sports DLC-coated surfaces on the barrel and receiver, a jewelled bolt and a bolt knob that is knurled and topped with the Sauer logo.

Highlights of the new Sauer bolt-action rifle include a newly designed steel chassis and “silky-smooth” bolt cycling, along with interchangeable, cold-hammer forged precision barrels that provide quick caliber changes. In addition, shooters can select between four pre-set trigger weights from 0.77 pounds to 2.75 pounds.

The ergonomic manual cocking system is lightweight, quiet and easy on the thumb. When ready to shoot, you apply slight pressure with your thumb to cock the rifle. Uncocking and unloading in the uncocked position is also a simple process.

Sauer has adopted the Blaser saddle mount technology for accurate optics mounting. This quick-detach mount is designed to ensure the unit can be taken off the Sauer 505 and put back on while maintaining the precise point of aim without having to re-zero the scope.

The Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle is available in four stock options—walnut (from wood grades 2 to 10), synthetic, synthetic thumbhole or carbon fiber. The flush-mounted detachable magazine incorporates an integrated MagLock safety to prevent unwanted triggering of the magazine button. The rifle’s weight ranges from around six pounds with the ultralight carbon-fiber stock to heavier weight field options with magnum barrels.

Available calibers include 222 Rem., .223 Rem. .243 Win., .270 Win., 6.5x55 SE, 6.5 Creedmoor, .308 Win., .30-06 Spring., 7x64, 8x57 IS, 9,3x62, .270 WSM, 6.5 PRC, 8.5x55 Blaser, 7 mm Rem. Mag., .300 Win. Mag., 8x68 S, .375 H&H and 10.3x60 R.

“The Sauer 505 represents the finest in German craftsmanship and engineering, and its precision, beauty and timeless elegance ensures it will be cherished by generations to come,” Jason Evans, CEO of the Blaser Group said. “This German rifle is a meticulously designed platform with the smoothest 60-degree action available, and Sauer offers various stocks for specific purposes from lightweight carbon-fiber options for mountain hunting to heavier stocks and barrels for dangerous game hunts in the African savanna.”

MSRP for the Sauer 505 bolt-action rifle starts at $3,500. It will be available beginning this summer in multiple calibers. Learn more at the Sauer website.
