There’s a particular satisfaction in running a .22 revolver, and Remington has built a load to suit it. The company’s Performance Wheelgun 22 rimfire cartridge has been reaching dealer shelves since earlier this year, aimed squarely at shooters who favor wheelguns.
The pitch is simple enough. Performance Wheelgun 22 is a .22 Long Rifle load tuned to feed smoothly and quietly through revolvers, both the older designs that have been passed down a generation or two and the modern rimfire handguns that fill the same role today. At its core sits a 39-grain truncated cone solid bullet leaving the muzzle at 770 fps, a subsonic figure that keeps recoil light and the report noticeably softer than the snap of a high-velocity round.
That combination is the whole idea. Low velocity means less muzzle rise and a quieter shot, which makes the load an easy fit for breaking in new shooters or simply spending an afternoon ringing steel. Plus, the subsonic report sits well at indoor ranges and in any setting where a gentler crack on the firing line is welcome.
“Wheelgun shooters know that .22 revolvers are all about reliability and control,” said Dan Compton, Remington’s Rimfire Product Director. “Performance Wheelgun 22 is unmatched when it comes to plinking steel at high noon or testing your draw speed and first shot at the line. No matter what your endeavor, make sure you have got Performance Wheelgun 22 LR ammo in your wheelgun and your bandolier.”
Remington is loading the cartridge under the revamped rimfire processes the company has leaned on to tighten quality control across its rimfire line. The .103 ballistic coefficient and a velocity that holds at 640 fps out to 150 yards round out a load built for consistency at handgun and short-rifle distances.
Performance Wheelgun 22 Rimfire ships in a 100-count sliding-lid box and carries a suggested retail of $12.99 under part number R21075. It’s available now at dealers nationwide. For more on Remington’s ammunition offerings, visit remington.com.
