As we come up on 25 years, 9/11 is far back long enough that junior shooters now competing have no memory of it, yet short enough that nearly everyone else can still name the room they were standing in when they found out.
SK Guns is marking that quarter-century with a short run of engraved 1911s. What sets this one apart from a crowded commemorative category is restrained elegance. A Twin Towers engraving on one side, “We Will Never Forget” on the other, two dates and gold borders framing selective scroll against a satin diamond-like carbon finish.
Underneath the engraving is a build that would hold up without any of it. SK Guns summoned a Commander-size forged carbon steel frame checkered at 20 lpi on the front strap, mated to a forged carbon steel slide with custom-milled diamond serrations. A Stan Chen Customs one-piece forged mainspring housing and magazine well handles the back of the grip at 25 lpi—a part serious 1911 shooters recognize on sight and one that does real work on reloads. Kirinite REACTIV grip panels finish the package.
Barrel duty falls to a 4.25-inch match-grade stainless bull barrel with a 1:16-inch twist and one-piece full-length guide rod. Up front sits a green fiber-optic sight with a rear serrated sight. Additionally, there’s an integrated Picatinny rail forward of the trigger guard, a single-sided thumb safety and a curved aluminum trigger in black Cerakote.
Capacity is nine rounds of 9 mm Luger with two magazines included with purchase. The pistol weighs 38.5 ounces empty and measures 7.5 inches in overall lengthy.
One practical note buyers should heed: carbon steel is carbon steel, coating or not. SK Guns advises keeping the pistol oiled and stored in a climate-controlled space when it isn’t in use.
Production is capped at 100 pistols, each individually numbered. Pricing is $1,999.
Commemorative firearms tend to invite skepticism, and often earn it. This category has produced plenty of guns where the tribute is the product and the firearm is an afterthought. That isn’t the case here—strip the engraving off and you still have a competently built custom Commander with parts people pay for on purpose.
