With more than 2,700 athletes from 33 states attending, the 2021 Scholastic Clay Target Program National Championship firmly established itself as the largest SCTP National Championship to date. Not to be outdone, attendance at the Scholastic Action Shooting Program's National Championship ballooned to more than 650 participants this year.

Regular readers will remember when SSUSA attended the 2019 SCTP and SASP Nationals at the Cardinal Center. During my first visit to Cardinal at the 2016 SCTP Nationals, I learned how the 500-acre venue is a magnificent place to showcase the shooting sports.

This year, it wasn't just the athletes, families, coaches and volunteers coming out in droves to attend one of the most popular shooting events in the country. Aware of the current difficulties in sourcing ammunition, match sponsors such as Winchester, Remington, Federal and CCI provided ammo so that SCTP and SASP teams could continue competing.

To accommodate this jump in participation for the SASP Nationals, the Cardinal Shooting Center expanded its action shooting facilities from eight to 12 total shooting bays. The combined 2021 SASP and SCTP Nationals is the largest shoot in the history of the Cardinal Shooting Center. More than 1.4 million White Flyer clay targets were thrown at the 2021 SCTP Nationals, and more than 200,000 rounds were sent downrange at the SASP events.
