Smith & Wesson has expanded its Model 1854 series with a new chambering in the venerable .30-30 Winchester, continuing its push to modernize the American lever-action rifle without discarding its historical roots.

The new variant retains the Model 1854’s forged stainless steel receiver and 20-inch threaded barrel, now matched with the ballistics and deep legacy of the .30-30 Win. cartridge—a staple among deer hunters since its debut in the 1890s. The 6+1 capacity rifle includes a 5/8x24 threaded muzzle for suppressor compatibility and a flat-faced trigger designed for consistent finger placement and cleaner breaks.

With a large loop lever for gloved use, the Model 1854 stands out not just in performance but in usability across varied environments. The stock is made from textured polymer, paired with stainless and black finishes that favor corrosion resistance and durability.

Beyond the mechanics, Smith & Wesson has designed the rifle with adaptability in mind. The fore-end includes three M-LOK slots, while a 5¾-inch Picatinny rail up top supports a range of optics. In addition, the iron sights include a gold bead front and an adjustable XS Sights ghost ring at the rear.
