Team Hornady’s Phillip Velayo and Caylen Wojcik secured the top spot at the 2021 Granite Creek Sniper Challenge, held Jun. 3–4 in Sheridan, Mont.

Velayo and Wojcik were using Hornady 6 mm 110-grain A-Tip Match bullets in conjunction with the Hornady ballistics app, 4DOF, paired with a Kestrel weather meter.

A former U.S. Marine Corps Scout Sniper Primary Marksmanship Instructor who joined Team Hornady this past May, Velayo is well known throughout the shooting sports as one of the best long-range shooters of his generation. He expressed his amazement at the consistent performance of Hornady A-Tip bullets.

“The accuracy and consistency of A-Tip bullets completely blew us away,” said Velayo. “These bullets cut through the 20–25 m.p.h. Montana crosswinds like a hot knife through butter, making easy work for first round impacts on 1- to 2-MOA targets out to 1,145 yards.”

Hornady’s A-Tip Match bullets have an aluminum tip that’s precision machined and longer than polymer tips that moves the center of gravity and enhances inflight stability. As for the Hornady 4DOF Ballistic Calculator, it provides trajectory solutions based on projectile drag coefficient (not ballistic coefficient), plus the exact physical modeling of the projectile, as well as its mass and aerodynamic properties.
