The Amateur Trapshooting Association’s 38th Annual Great Lakes Satellite Grand American runs May 19-24, 2026, at the Michigan Trapshooting Association home grounds in Mason, three miles south of the state capital. The six-day tournament features 16 events across three ATA disciplines—singles, handicap and doubles. This is one of the ATA’s premier Satellite Grand Americans on the national calendar.
Competition opens Tuesday with singles, handicap and doubles prelims, then builds through midweek events named for past champions including the Robert Caplinger Singles, Brady Mitchell Handicap and Joseph Charnigo Doubles. Friday brings the Lake Huron Singles Class Championship, the Caesar Guerini Preliminary Handicap and the Lake Ontario Doubles Class Championship. The weekend anchors the program with Saturday’s 200-target Browning Singles Championship and the Winchester Ammunition Handicap Championship on Sunday, which pays trophies through seventh place. The High-Over-All combines 1,300 targets across Events 4-13, 15 and 16, while the High-All-Around covers 400 championship targets from Events 13, 15 and 16. Joseph Charnigo won both aggregate titles in 2025.
Classification, squadding and cashiering open Monday, May 18, from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. and at 8:00 a.m. daily through the tournament. Practice traps open at noon on Monday and at 8:30 a.m. for the remainder of the week. Pre-squadding is available through sosclays.com from March 1 through May 18. The MTA grounds offer more than 200 camping sites with water and electricity at $40 per night, with tent camping at $15 per night. Lansing is about a 20-minute drive away for hotel accommodations.
