Like every other shooter I know, I’ve always wanted my own private range. When I moved to Phoenix in 1982, it was easy to find a piece of desert nearby with a good backstop where it was safe to shoot. These days, however, the city limits have expanded to the point where shooters are forced to drive farther and farther to find places where it’s safe (and legal) to shoot. A few years ago, I heard about a company in Burlington, CT, called Bullet Trap USA that  offers a great solution to the problem of “Where can I shoot?” Their answer is, “Pretty much wherever you want.”

Bullet Trap USA offers a range of bullet traps, sound abatement rooms, HEPA filtration systems, perimeter warning alarm systems and portable trailer-mounted bullet traps that make it possible to set up a shooting range virtually anywhere. Their bullet-trap technology uses AR500 steel to deflect projectiles and the deflection elements are rubber mounted. The mounts flex to absorb bullet energy, and there are no welds to break. The AR500 steel is cut using a water jet cutting process, and no heat is induced to compromise the properties of the steel. Bullet Trap USA’s traps are designed to stop everything from .22 LR to .458 Win. Mag. with no risk of ricochet or back splatter. The entire bullet trap unit can be disassembled for installation and is easily maintained. Trapped bullets are retained in a removable collection pail, making the lead from spent bullets easy to recycle—an environmentally friendly way to prevent lead contamination indoors or out.

In addition to the obvious benefit to individual shooters, Bullet Trap USA’s equipment is ideal for use by gunsmiths, gun shop owners, and military and law enforcement personnel. How much more would you shoot if it were that convenient?
