Bethany Shirley, an 18-year-old standout based in Georgia who competes with the Walton County 4-H team, claimed the individual title at the 2025 CMP National Three-Position Sporter Air Rifle Championship, held at the Gary Anderson CMP Competition Center in Port Clinton, Ohio, from June 19-21.

With a final score of 446.7, Shirley’s commanding performance across kneeling, prone and standing positions earned her the gold and $1,000.
Facing off against nearly 200 of the country’s most promising junior marksmen—including competitors traveling from as far as Hawaii—Shirley maintained a 10-point lead through qualifying before securing victory in the eight-shooter elimination final.
“Bethany is an outstanding competitor,” CMP Air Gun Manager Katie Harrington said. “It was really enjoyable to watch her maintain a solid process, even as other talented athletes challenged her on the firing line.”
Alexandra Orr of Virginia, age 15, was the runner-up with 435.8, earning $750, while North Carolina’s Valeria Alvarado walked away from the match with a score of 424.1, good for third place and $500. Alvarado also led her North Brunswick H.S. squad to the overall team title, joined by Lizeth Dominguez, Julian Seda and Alyssa Harris. The North Brunswick H.S. team earned both the team championship and High Scholastic team title after posting a score of 4395-126X, bringing home a combined $2,000.

Alvarado was also recognized as one of the top graduating seniors, netting an additional $1,000 scholarship alongside Tennessee’s Brooklyn Zeigler and Georgia’s Emma Allen, who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
While competition was fierce, the event also offered lighter moments with an outdoor social featuring food trucks, cornhole, volleyball and music—giving athletes a chance to unwind between relays.
