Birchwood Casey is now offering what it calls “a more environmentally responsible way to maintain firearms.”
The new line of 100% biodegradable gun cleaners gives eco-conscious shooters powerful, modern formulations that are being billed to remove fouling as efficiently as traditional petroleum-based solvents.

Birchwood Casey’s Synvex biodegradable gun-cleaner line has four new products: Carbon Cutter, Bore Wash, CLP-X oil and Copper Cutter.
Synvex Carbon Cutter dissolves heavy carbon and powder buildup on bolts, brakes and more while remaining safe enough to use on metal, polymer and coated surfaces. With non-ammonia, non-petroleum chemistry, the formula also stays on surfaces long after application.
The Synvex Bore Wash is an odorless, high-purity biodegradable solvent that’s safe to use on everything from Cerakote and hydro printing to plastic and wood, breaking down oil, grease and grime without leaving behind unwanted residue.
As for Synvex CLP-X oil, it will clean, lubricate and protect in one simple step, quickly penetrating the metal surfaces of any firearm. The oil will leave a moisture-displacing, rust-preventing shield that reduces friction and wear. Plus, the synthetic-based formula is also MIL-PRF-63460F-rated.
Finally, Synvex Copper Cutter offers an easy way to remove stubborn copper and lead fouling while also preventing future fouling buildup. It will work on everything from bore steel to other sensitive finishes.
