Leupold has a new full-sized red dot on the market, and it’s aimed squarely at shooters who wear their optics out. The LCO Pro F2 arrives with a redesigned aluminum housing, a reworked lens system and battery life measured in years rather than months, positioning it as the company’s answer for competition, duty and defensive use.
The optical system centers on a premium aspheric lens, which Leupold recessed into the housing to cut glare and shield it from impact. Magnification holds at a true 1X with unlimited eye relief, so the sight picture reads the same whether a shooter’s cheek weld is textbook or improvised. Four reticle options ship on the LCO Pro F2: a 1-MOA dot, a 65-MOA circle and versions of each with compass points added for faster orientation. Windage and elevation adjust in half-MOA clicks.
Brightness runs across 20 daylight settings and 10 dedicated to night vision use, controlled through a rotary dial that does double duty. A quick half-turn cycles through the full illumination range in either direction, useful for jumping from a dim indoor bay to bright sun without hunting for the right setting one click at a time, while slower turns allow finer adjustment once a shooter has settled on a brightness level. Leupold calls the feature a Rapid Illumination Dial.
Battery life is the number likely to catch the most attention: 30,000 hours off a single CR123A. Leupold gets there through motion-sensing technology that puts the unit to sleep after five minutes without movement and wakes it the instant the rifle moves again. A separate lockout mode disables that sensor entirely, which keeps a shooter's chosen settings from changing by accident during storage or transport.
The housing itself is machined from a single piece of aluminum in Leupold’s Beaverton, Oregon, factory, and the sight ships waterproof and fogproof in either matte black or flat dark earth.
