At SHOT Show 2024 in Las Vegas, Nev., this past January, Safariland announced what it describes as a “groundbreaking concealable body armor system that redefines the standards of protection for law enforcement” called the APEX Covert Vest system.

Designed for law enforcement personnel, Safariland’s new APEX concealable body armor vest system emphasizes personal safety, high mobility and comfort for those on the front lines. With the new design, Safariland was inspired by modern sports performance equipment.

At the heart of APEX is four-piece vest design that seamlessly integrates two side panels with front and rear counterparts for improved maneuverability. This configuration allows for high articulation, as well as ensuring the armor panels move fluidly with the body, providing coverage during every twist and turn of duty.

APEX also stands out from the rest of the pack with its innovative “floating” front and back panels, creating an overlap relationship with the side panels. This design provides continuous protection and will adjust to the body’s natural motions.

Features include the aforementioned four-piece floating architecture, core compression system that carries the weight of the ballistics around your body’s core, extendable tuckable garment, lockable front zipper with zipper garage, internal soft armor suspension system and integrated front and rear trauma plate pockets.

“The development of APEX is rooted in recognizing the parallel between advanced athletic mobility and the dynamic demands of law enforcement officers,” Safariland’s Vice President and General Manager of Armor, James Duncan said. “APEX addresses the critical need for enhanced mobility and comfort in the line of duty. It’s more than just a piece of equipment—it’s a testament to our commitment to officer performance and well-being.”

Different models of the APEX Covert Carrier vest are available for men and women in three colors—Black, Navy and White.
