When Springfield Armory introduced the Echelon line, the idea was flexibility without fuss. The new Echelon 4.0FC, announced at SHOT Show 2026 in Las Vegas last week, feels like a natural next step—less about pushing boundaries and more about refining proportions.

The 4.0FC, chambered in 9 mm Luger, blends the shorter slide of the Echelon 4.0C with a newly designed FC frame that keeps the full-length grip of the 4.5F. The key difference is the dustcover: shortened to match the compact slide while preserving grip length and magazine capacity. In hand, that means a pistol that settles quickly without giving up control or balance.

At the center is Springfield’s Central Operating Group, a serialized stainless-steel chassis that drops into different grip modules in seconds. It’s a quiet enabler of modularity rather than a headline feature, but it’s what makes the platform adaptable over time.

Optics mounting is via Springfield Armory’s Variable Interface System, which uses movable pins instead of adapter plates, allowing direct mounting of dozens of popular optics. The result is a lower sight height and fewer extra parts: simple, practical advantages that matter on the range.

The Echelon 4.0FC ships with fully ambidextrous controls, tritium/luminescent U-Dot sights and two magazines: a 17-round flush fit and a 20-round extended mag, with 15-round and 10-round versions available for purchase in restricted locales. A 4-inch hammer-forged barrel, 24-ounce unloaded weight and overall length just over seven inches place it neatly between duty pistol and everyday carry.

With all variants priced at $710, the Springfield Armory Echelon 4.0FC doesn’t try to reinvent the handgun. Instead, it focuses on thoughtful geometry and modular engineering—an approach that will appeal to shooters who value balance over buzzwords.

For those weighing how the pistol might be purchased rather than just how it shoots, Springfield Armory is also offering the Echelon 4.0FC across all three variants through its FIRSTLINE program. Separate Gear Pac options bundle the pistol with a factory-installed Viridian RFX11 green-dot optic, four magazines and a range-ready bag—an all-in package that may appeal to buyers looking to shortcut setup and get straight to the range.
