Steiner has released the MPS 2.0 Micro Pistol Sight, a second-generation enclosed-emitter red dot that leaves the sealed optical package largely alone and rebuilds the parts shooters actually handle.
Chief among the changes is the battery. A CR2032 replaces the smaller cell the original carried, and Steiner rates the reworked electronics at more than 90,000 hours of runtime at brightness level 4 and better than 27,000 hours at level 5. Swapping that cell got easier, too—a magnetic cover holds the battery in place during installation, which matters more than it sounds when the alternative is chasing a coin cell across a concrete bay. Shooters who want additional margin can enable a 13-hour auto-off.
Controls received similar attention. Oversized brightness buttons are workable in gloves, and eight settings cover six daylight levels plus two night-vision modes. Holding both buttons for five seconds locks the controls, a duty-oriented feature that keeps a holster draw or a car door from walking the brightness up or down without the shooter noticing.
Housing specifications carry over from the original in most respects. Reinforced metal surrounds a deep-set window shielded by an integrated hood, with waterproofing to 35 meters and a rated operating range from −40°F to 140°F. Glass runs true 1X through a 21x16 mm window, and a single 3.3-MOA dot serves as the reticle.
“With the MPS 2.0, we’ve refined every aspect of the user experience,” said Jordan Egli, Steiner USA director of marketing.
For competitors, a relevant detail to note is the footprint. Steiner built the MPS 2.0 on the Aimpoint ACRO pattern, which by now is cut into a broad slice of optics-ready slides and available as an adapter plate for most of the rest. Enclosed-emitter designs have gained ground in USPSA Carry Optics and Steel Challenge in recent seasons for a simple reason—a sealed window does not collect rain, brass shavings or the fine dust that turns an open-emitter dot into a smear at the worst possible moment. Weight is 2.32 ounces, adjustments run 1 MOA per click with 90 MOA of total travel in both axes, and the same optic will ride a carbine, an SBR or a shotgun for shooters consolidating platforms.
