Taurus recently introduced its TTX Suppressor Series with a three-model lineup. The first suppressors to carry the Taurus name, the TTX22 covers rimfire, the TTX9C is built for pistol-caliber carbines and the TTX30 handles .30-caliber rifles. Prices run from $299.99 to $599.99.
Bret Vorhees, president and CEO of Taurus USA, called suppressors a natural next step for a company with more than 85 years in the business and a lineup that now runs from rimfire pistols to precision hunting rifles. Taurus didn’t go it alone, though. Vorhees said the company brought in experienced suppressor engineers to develop the series. He also made clear that the TTX cans are meant for a wide range of guns, not only ones with a Taurus roll mark.
All three are made from sintered titanium, built up through additive manufacturing rather than cut from bar stock. Titanium also keeps the weight down; the smallest model weighs less than 4 ounces. Each suppressor uses a monocore design under a high-temperature Cerakote C-Series finish.
According to Taurus, the design work went beyond decibels. The company says the internal geometry is meant to manage gas flow, soften recoil impulse, limit back pressure and keep point of impact steady from shot to shot. Back pressure is of particular interest to anyone running a suppressed carbine, where excess gas tends to end up in the shooter’s face. Taurus rates each model at up to 30 dB of sound reduction.
At 5.5 inches long, 1 inch in diameter and 3.71 ounces, the TTX22 is the smallest of the group. It mounts on 1/2x28 threads and is rated for .22 LR, .22 WMR and .17 HMR. Taurus designed it with its own TX22 pistol in mind. At $299.99, it is the lowest-priced model in the series.
The TTX9C is a carbine suppressor, and that distinction matters. A 1/2x28 direct-thread model for fixed-barrel guns such as pistol-caliber carbines and compact 9 mm platforms like the Taurus RPC, it has no booster assembly. The TTX9C is optimized for 9 mm and also rated for .380 ACP, .32 ACP and .22 LR. It measures 7 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter, weighs 11.5 ounces and lists for $599.99.
Rifle shooters get the TTX30, the largest of the three at 7.5 inches long, 1.75 inches in diameter and 14.31 ounces. It uses a 5/8x24 direct-thread mount and handles .30-caliber cartridges from .300 Blackout through .300 Win. Mag., including .308 Win. and 7.62x39 mm. It is also rated for 6.5 mm Creedmoor. Geared towards hunters, precision shooters and general-purpose rifle builds, it pairs naturally with the company’s Expedition bolt-action. It’s also priced at $599.99.
