A 19-stage, 200-round competition, there were 187 shooters in total at this year’s Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge.

Koenig took first place in the Production division with a final score of 154, which was also good for 11th place on the overall match leaderboard. His match time was 167.38 seconds.

He was competing with a Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in 6 mm Creedmoor and Leupold’s Mark 5HD 5-25X 56 mm optic. As for his loads, they included Hornady’s 6 mm 110-grain A-Tip Match bullets.

“I had a great time out west this past weekend at the Hornady Precision Rifle challenge,” Koenig said on his Facebook page about this year’s competition. “George Gardner, Bryan Sikes and their whole staff put together another great match. This is my favorite rifle match of the year and it didn’t disappoint. I can really appreciate all the effort that has gone into the course of fire and the whole shooter experience. I had a blast with a great squad and was able to win Production class and finish 11th overall with my factory Ruger RPR chambered in 6 mm Creedmoor.”

Regular Shooting Sports USA readers will remember when we reported on Koenig’s historic 20th victory at the Bianchi Cup Action Pistol Championship this past May.

As for the overall match winner, Open division competitor Andrew Slade claimed the top title with a score of 175 and final time of 183.99 seconds.

Additionally, Hornady’s Assistant Director of Engineering, Joe Thielen, won the Tactical division title using loads featuring the company’s .30 cal. 176-rain A-Tip Match bullets. After posting a score of 152.00, Thielen also landed in 16th place on the overall match leaderboard.

“The Hornady Precision Rifle Challenge is one of the toughest matches in the country year after year,” Thielen said. “Shooting A-Tip Match bullets gives me the competitive advantage in a stacked field of competitors. No other bullet on the market handles the wind like the A-Tip Match.”
