Mexican silhouette shooter Edgar Rueda secured the 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup aggregate title after winning the competition’s second stage at Club De Tiro Saltillo Safari in Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, on October 6.

Rueda is the first Mexican competitor to claim victory at the Lapua Monarch Cup since its inception in 2022. His overall championship score from both legs of the competition was 214/240.

Prior to his overall victory, he finished in fourth place during the first stage of the 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup at the NRA National Smallbore Silhouette Championships held at Ridgway Rifle Club in Ridgway, Pennsylvania, this past July. Rueda earned match scores of 30/40, 38/40 and 36/40, giving him an aggregate score of 104/120 after the first leg of the competition.

During the second stage of the 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup in Mexico, Rueda was tied with Enrique Kuess on the first day of the match, posting scores of 37/40 and 35/40. On day two, Rueda contested windy conditions to fire a score of 38/40 for a final aggregate score of 110/120, enough to capture the Saltillo title and the overall 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup victory.

The runner-up of the 2024 Lapua Monarch Cup was Jake Stine with 207/240. In third place was Enrique Kuess, also with 207/240. Stine defeated Kuess in a shoot-off to secure the second place ranking.

More about the Lapua Monarch Cup: “Comprised of three Smallbore Silhouette shooting matches hosted in Canada, United States and Mexico, the Lapua Monarch Cup is recognized as the must-attend event of the silhouette shooting world. Lapua Monarch Cup competitors earn points from each match within their respective classification (Master, AAA, AA and A). All shooters have the opportunity to receive more than $100,000 in cash and prizes.”

Silhouette competition shooting is a challenging discipline with competitors tackling steel chickens, pigs, turkeys and rams. Shooters, standing and unsupported, take aim at four banks of silhouette targets at increasing distances of 40, 60, 77 and 100 meters for smallbore and 200, 300, 385 and 500 meters in high power. They shoot 40 targets in all. For every target knocked down, the competitor earns one point.
