Ed Andrus served as National Matches Coordinator through the 1994 program and upon his death in October of 1994, was replaced by former DCM Director and newly named NRA Competitions Division Director M.S. Gilchrist.
The first page of that year’s National Match program read in part: “1995 National Matches … Dedicated to the Memory of Edward D. Andrus … Ed was the mainstay of Camp Perry, and was a recognized authority on the National Matches …”
His National Match affiliation spanned more than three decades. As a competitor, official and starting in 1992, National Match Coordinator, Andrus always welcomed challenges and his statistical expertise was unparalleled.
“Ed was technically brilliant,” Gilchrist said. “He lived in the world of numbers. He understood Perry, he understood the physical attributes of the facility and how to make the best use of what was available.”
His legacy lives on with the Edward D. Andrus Trophy, a large bronze statue awarded during the NRA National High Power Rifle Long-Range Championship.
