FORT CARSON, Colo. — U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit shooter Christian Elliott picked the right afternoon to shoot the best round of his season.
Elliott shattered 36 targets in the men’s open final to defeat Vincent Hancock and win the 2026 USA Shooting Fall Skeet Selection Match, contested Aug. 28 through Sept. 1 at the USA Shooting Shotgun Range. Hancock, who had posted the high qualification score of the week at 247, finished two targets back, while Elliott’s AMU teammate Dustan Taylor took third place.
Samantha Simonton, also with the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit, closed the women’s skeet competition with the highest final of the entire match, a 38 that edged Dania Vizzi by a single target. Madeline Corbin finished in third place.
USA Shooting National team selection blends the fall aggregate with scores from the Hillsdale Selection Match and points earned in the open final and, by that measure, Hancock and Vizzi came out on top. Hancock’s 495 led all of the men and was seven points clear of Elliott. Vizzi’s 481 edged Kim Rhode by two, with Simonton another two behind her.
Rhode’s week was a reminder of how little the aggregate cares about any single afternoon. She shot 238 in qualification and 241 at Hillsdale, the highest Hillsdale score in the women’s field, then finished fifth in the final, walking away second on the selection list.
