Federal Ammunition has begun shipping this week two new 20-gauge target loads under the All-American competition shotshell banner. The additions are aimed squarely at trap and skeet shooters who prefer the lighter-recoiling shells.
Both new loads carry 7/8 ounce of lead shot in a 2¾-inch hull at 1,200 fps. The only difference between them is shot size: one uses No. 7.5, the other No. 8. The split is the standard one for competition shotshells—No. 8 for skeet, where targets are closer and a denser pattern matters more than individual pellet energy, and No. 7.5 for trap, where the longer shots reward larger pellets that retain energy at distance. Federal lists both at $15.99 per 25-count box.
The 20-gauge loads share the architecture Federal developed for the 12-gauge versions: a one-piece Podium wad, a two-piece straight-wall hull with an inserted plastic base wad, a striated tube and high-antimony lead shot selected to balance hardness and density. The straight-wall hull sports a geometry intended to deliver more consistent powder burn and pattern uniformity than tapered hulls, particularly in the kind of repeat shooting that competition demands.
“Shooters who prefer to shoot 20-gauge are sure to love the high-performance of these quality loads,” Sam Oftedahl, Federal’s shotshell product manager said.
Both Federal All-American 20-gauge loads are shipping now to dealers nationwide. For more information, go to federalpremium.com.
