New from SIG Sauer is the OSCAR8 spotting scope, an angled eyepiece 27–55x80mm model that sports SIG’s signature HDX optical design and is built with all-weather performance and durability in mind. MSRP: $1,699.99.

SIG says the OSCAR8 “will provide unmatched performance in all environmental conditions.”

The OSCAR8 combines extra-low dispersion glass with high light transmittance glass, a Schmidt-Pechan prism, and fully multi-coated lenses for high resolution, image contrast, color clarity and image brightness. And, the Spectracoat anti-reflection coatings the lens receive from the factory should reduce surface reflections for superior light transmission.

Of note to wearers of corrective lenses, the OSCAR8’s adjustable eyecups will make it easier to optimize eye relief while wearing glasses.

In addition to the aforementioned angled eyepiece, the OSCAR8 scope includes a rotating tripod collar for multiple viewing angles and fast focus adjustment. To protect the delicate optics inside the aircraft-grade aluminum housing, there is ergonomic rubber armor that should be able to handle the variable terrain often seen while hunting, or the types of inclement weather conditions that sometimes mar competitive shooting matches. Finally, the variable power eyepiece can be either locked in place, or removed to accept other eyepieces.
