Team Winchester’s Anthony Matarese, Jr., and Joe Fanizzi recently traveled to the Fujairah Shooting Club in the United Arab Emirates for the inaugural Fujairah Mountain Shooting Championship. At the match, held February 9-11, both shooters secured podium finishes.

Matarese, Jr., was the overall runner-up with a score of 172, dropping three birds in the shoot-off to the match winner, Matthieu Delmas. As for Fanizzi, took home third place with 168.

This inaugural Fujairah Mountain Shooting Championship offered one of the largest prizes in all of competitive shooting sports, with more than $200,000 in additional funds paid out to the top shooters. More than 400 of the best sporting clays competitors from 44 different countries gathered to compete while also having to battle the harsh desert conditions and steep mountainous terrain.

“Anthony and Joe represented Team Winchester and the U.S. on the world shooting sports stage, and proved they are two of the best,” Matt Campbell, vice president of sales and marketing for Winchester Ammunition, said about their individual performances this month in the United Arab Emirates at the inaugural Fujairah Mountain Championship. “It’s exciting to see new events like this one and understand the importance of the shooting sports in different countries,” Campbell added.
