Remington Adds Three Subsonic Rifle Loads for Suppressor Use

LONOKE, Ark. (Aug. 25, 2026) — Remington Ammunition added three loads to its Subsonic Rifle line, with all three on their way to dealers now: 360 Buckhammer, .308 Win. and .45-70 Gov't. As the name implies, all are loaded to stay under the speed of sound when fired through a suppressor.

The reasoning behind subsonic ammunition is narrow and worth restating for anyone new to it. A suppressor deals with the muzzle blast, the expanding gas that follows the bullet out of the barrel. It does nothing about the sonic boom a bullet generates on its own once it crosses roughly 1,125 fps, and that crack travels downrange whether or not anything is threaded onto the muzzle. Dropping muzzle velocity below that threshold removes the second sound source entirely, which is why subsonic loads and suppressors tend to be bought together.

Remington’s Subsonic .308 Win. load pushes a 205-grain hollow point at 1,050 fps, a bullet weight well above the 150- to 180-grain range most .308 shooters are used to, which is how the load holds onto some measure of energy at reduced speed. As for the 360 Buckhammer offering, it sends a 250-grain bonded hollow point at 1,030 fps, and the .45-70 Gov't load moves a 300-grain bonded hollow point at 1,000 fps.

For bullet construction, Remington is using an enclosed-base design, meaning the jacket wraps the rear of the bullet rather than leaving exposed lead at the base. Exposed lead vaporizes under the heat and pressure of firing and deposits inside the suppressor, and volume shooters who run unjacketed bases through a can know how quickly that accumulates. Sealing the base cuts down on the buildup.

All three loads ship in 20-round boxes. The 360 Buckhammer carries a $47.99 MSRP, .308 Win. lists at $49.99 and the .45-70 Gov't is priced at $59.99.

Remington also offers a .300 Blackout 220-grain load that has a muzzle velocity of 940 fps.
