Safariland Calls New Ballast Its ‘Most Advanced Duty Holster’

Safariland recently introduced the Ballast duty-rated holster system, which the company said is its “most advanced duty holster for law enforcement professionals.”

A lightweight and durable holster, Ballast was designed to stand up to the toughest conditions. To shield Ballast’s internal components, it has a proprietary crush-resistant design. Also, unique to Ballast, there is a new Ingress Guard to mitigate access inside the holster.

An internalized ALS lever lock spring shields the core security mechanism of the Ballast. The textured ALS lever allows for improved thumb contact ergonomics. In addition, there is a redesigned cantable belt mount that supports 15 degrees forward or rearward angles or vertical alignment for maximum comfort and an efficient draw stroke.

With a minimalist footprint, Safariland’s Ballast maximizes duty belt efficiency, allowing a patrol officer to carry a full-sized firearm and red-dot sight without sacrificing belt space.

For dealing with debris, this duty holster has an open muzzle design, plus a removable RDS optic lid to protect a red-dot sight’s lens.

The Ballast is also compatible with all Safariland three-hole pattern holster mounts and accessories.

Don’t worry about high heat and low cold tolerance—Safariland said the Ballast duty-holster can handle temperatures ranging from 160° F to -50° F.

Safariland incorporated feedback from the field and design improvements to shape the functionality of the Ballast holster. 

“Ballast was created with the safety of law enforcement and patrol officers in mind,” Safariland Vice President and General Manager of Duty Gear Eric Gasvoda said. “We took decades of feedback into consideration when creating the Ballast, and know we have created our most advanced duty-rated holster.”

MSRP is $222.50. Ballast is slated to begin shipping in March of 2025. Learn more at safariland.com.
