Walker’s Shrinks Its Razor Muffs Down to Youth Size

Worth noting for anyone shopping by name — the pink accent version keeps black ear cups and reserves the color for the hardware, while the padded headband and metal wire frame are standard across the line.

A single unprotected gunshot can spike past 140 decibels, and permanent hearing damage starts well below that. Young ears take the same beating adult ears do, but until recently the hearing protection built for them amounted to adult muffs shrunk in the marketing copy rather than the tooling. Anyone who has watched a kid fidget with oversized muffs knows how that goes: the seal leaks, the cups slide around and after an hour of discomfort the whole rig ends up on the shooting bench. Walker’s new Razor Junior takes a different route, putting the internals from the company’s popular Razor Slim line inside a muff actually engineered for smaller heads.

Getting the fit right meant starting over rather than padding down. Walker’s built the Razor Junior’s ear cups and headband around youth head sizes from the outset, which is how the muffs manage a proper seal without the bulk that makes standard hearing protection wobble on a young shooter. Low-profile cups keep the weight down and the fit secure through a full day at the range, and the padded headband rides on a metal wire frame sturdy enough to survive being stuffed in a range bag, sat on and dropped in the gravel.

Walker’s carried the Razor Slim’s electronics over without trimming the feature set. Dual Hi-Gain omnidirectional microphones feed full dynamic range HD speakers, with low-noise, frequency-tuned circuitry preserving natural sound quality so range commands and coaching stay clear. When a shot breaks, sound-activated compression clamps the spike within 0.02 seconds, and a sound-dampening composite housing handles whatever the circuitry misses. Noise reduction rating is 23 dB, same as the adult Razor Slim.

Kids are hard on gear, and a couple of design choices acknowledge it. Volume knobs sit recessed in the housing, so brushing against a bench or a truck door won’t crank the amplification. Batteries load through an external door, and Walker’s includes the AAAs, meaning the muffs work the moment the package opens. Parents bringing a child up through a club or scholastic league will appreciate not troubleshooting dead electronics on match morning.

Razor Junior Muffs are available now in black, teal, FDE, gray and pink accent colorways at $59.99. Learn more at walkersgameear.com.
