I first thought about using shooting gloves while practicing for the Bianchi Cup Barricade Event. Production class rules don’t allow the gun to rest on the wooden frame of the barricade, leaving that task to the back of your hand. From the NRA rules:

3.11 Gloves - Gloves may be worn which do not form an artificial support.

and…

7.7 Barricade Event - … All competitors may use the Barricade for support. No portion of the firearm to rest against the Barricade for Open Modified, Metallic or Production Firearms Divisions.

The Foot Joy rain-grip model uses thinner Suedemark Microfiber material for a non-slip surface.
Having found “tactical” shooting gloves to be too bulky, and not wanting to use padded cycle gloves that would change my grip, I planned on shopping for thin golf gloves for both the left and right hand. While inventorying the local golf pro shop, I discovered a line of gloves from the Foot Joy company—the folks who make golf shoes, gloves and outerwear. Foot Joy offers both a thicker pair of winter gloves and the ones I purchased for use in the rain. Where the winter gloves are relatively thick, the rain-grip model uses thinner Suedemark Microfiber material for a non-slip surface. They’re very comfortable and offer a sure grip, even in the heat with sweaty hands.

Another bonus of this product, at least where I shopped, is a professional sizing station that takes into account both palm width and finger length. Where I usually end up buying an XL glove with fingers that are too long, the Foot Joy gloves fit perfectly. They’re only available in black and the street price for a pair is about $22.
