LONOKE, Ark. – Remington has put two more 12-gauge loads into Premier Nitro Sporting Clays, and one of them covers new ground for the lineup. The new load (No. 20258) pairs No. 8 shot with a 1-ounce payload, a combination the family has not offered before—until now, every No. 8 in the line arrived either as an 1⅛-ounce 12-gauge or a .410.
The other (No. 20256) is a 1-ounce No. 7.5 load. Both are 2¾-inch, travel from the muzzle at 1,250 fps and priced at $20.99 for a 25-count box.
“Our Premier target loads were developed with the most avid sporting clays shooters in mind,” said Ronnie Evans, Remington’s shotshell product manager. “We pride ourselves on listening to the feedback of our customers, so these two new loads are powered down to a 1,250-fps muzzle velocity, which is what shooters have been asking for in this product line.”
What the additions do to the catalog is worth a look. A 12-gauge shooter who has settled on 1 ounce of shot—a common place to settle—can now pick pellet size and speed as separate decisions. No. 7.5 comes at 1,250, 1,290 and 1,350 fps, while No. 8 comes at 1,250. Neither choice requires moving up to 1⅛ ounces or down to ⅞ to get there, which is the sort of thing that matters when a course throws a 45-yard crosser at station four and a pair of rabbits at station five.
Pellet count is the practical argument for the No. 8. An ounce of No. 8 lead runs roughly 410 pellets against about 350 for No. 7.5, and those extra 60 have to come from somewhere—in this case, from the far edge of the pattern, where a target that got behind a shooter tends to end up.
Nothing changed underneath. Remington manufactures these on the Unibody hull, the one-piece gold case that made the line a fixture at the reloading bench and a solid reason why many club shooters buy Nitro Sporting Clays in flats rather than boxes. The figure-eight Power Piston wad handles pressure distribution on the way out.
Counting the newest ones, there are 10 loads in the Remington Premier Nitro Sporting Clays lineup, spanning 12-, 20- and 28-gauge, plus .410 bore.
